Back to School Projects

August 1, 2014 in Projects

Happy first Friday!

Heather here from The Sewing Loft back again to share some fun projects for you to stitch up!

Summer is quickly coming to an end and it’s time to start thinking about Back To School. (Not sure if I should insert a big “Woo Hoo” here or a “dang it’s almost over!” but either way the clock is ticking!)

Either way, to help jump start their year off in handmade style I have rounded up a few fun and easy projects.

Easy projects for Back To School.

Back to School Projects:

  1. Pencil Case
  2. Insulated Lunch Bag
  3. Backpack
  4. 3 Ring Notebook Pouch
  5. Notebook Cover
  6. Reusable Snack Bags
  7. Nap Mat
  8. Tablet Cover
  9. Zippered Backpack
  10. Book Bag

Many of these projects are perfect for stepping outside of the standard fabrics we use everyday.  Think oil cloth, canvas, vinyl… Ahh, the possibilities are endless!  It is important to use the correct needle and presser foot when using speciality fabrics.  Consider using a metal roller or teflon coated foot for materials that are difficult to feed through your machine.

Sewing Tips for Speciality Fabrics

It is also important to remember that stitching through vinyl is just like paper.  You are piercing holes in it and if you need to remove a seam the holes will remain behind.  Don’t stress over this… instead, extend your stitch length slightly and take your time. The goal is to just have fun!

Leave me a comment below and let me know what you’re working on.

Be sure to tune in next month to help jump start National Sewing Month!  Until then feel free to stop by and say hello.
