Flying Geese Quilt Block Pattern

We’re excited to have Kelly Bowser of Kelby Sews here to round out our National Quilting Month celebration! Today, she’s sharing how to create flying geese quilt blocks. Keep reading for Kelly’s tutorial!

Kelby Sews: Flying Geese Quilt Block Pattern

Almost no quilt block pattern is more versatile and makes as great a visual impact as the classic Flying Geese. This straightforward block is one of my favorites and because it’s so quick and easy to make, I’m sure it’ll be your go-to pattern anytime you’re inspired to create a stunning quilt.

Kelby Sews: Flying Geese Quilt Block Pattern

Supplies:

  • (16) 2”x 2” squares
  • (2)    2”x 3-1/2” rectangles
  • (2)    2” x 3-1/2” rectangles
  • (2)    2” x 3-1/2” rectangles
  • (2)    2” x 3-1/2” rectangles

Instructions:

1. Place 2” square right sides together with one of the 3-1/2” rectangles, lining up the edges on three sides.

2. Sew from one corner of the 2” square to the other

3. Trim corner to leave 1/4” seam allowance. Press seams open.

4. Repeat for the other side of the rectangle so you have a triangle or geese. Repeat for the remaining seven rectangles for a total of eight flying geese.

5. Arrange two rows of four geese each.

6. The finished block will measure approximately 6-1/2”.
