Making clearance look good

September 10, 2010 in General

I don’t know about you, but I always check out the sale section of my favorite stores first. For example, when I need to shop at Target, you will find me first walking down the back aisles to check out any clearance items. ¬†A couple of visits ago, I found this really cute plastic weave basket that could work as a perfect laundry basket for the baby’s room. And the best part, it was only $3.24!
When I got it home I found it would work in the room but it just wasn’t cute enough. So I took some of the leftover material from the crib skirt and some other scraps and made a laundry bag to fit into the basket.
To make the bag, I measured around the top of the basket and the bottom of the basket. I cut out 8 pieces for each side of the basket to make the outside and lining of the bag and two pieces to make the bottom of the bag. Once the outside and lining was all sewn, I placed one inside the other, wrong sides together and rolled the top down about an inch to make a casing for the string to make a bag closure. Easy peasy! Although, the original ¬†measurements I took didn’t quite fit for the top of the basket, I just added a couple of strips of scraps to make it a little wider so I could fold the top of the bag over the top of the basket. So if you ever mess up, don’t give up. Make it work for you!

  1. I love the back aisles at Target, too! Hobby Lobby is another great place to find great clearance items.

Love what you’ve done with the basket! Great job!
