More Fabric Savvy
I know I’ve mentioned this book before, but, I think it is a must-have for a seamstress who works with many different fabrics! I love it; it’s been so helpful! Sandra Betzina’s More Fabric Savvy offers expert advice, tips, fun facts and fabric information on several different types of fabric. When I was in fashion school, it just happened to be highly recommended for one of our basic sewing classes. I have since used it on many occasions! Among the many fabrics discussed are different types of knits, cashmere, damask, different silks, leather, and much more. She offers great pictures with information on whether or not the fabric needs preshrinking and what other care it might need. Each fabric also includes sewing machine foot and needle suggestions, as well as, what seam finishes, closures, hems, and pressing methods work best for that specific fabric! She also offers helpful tips along the way, such as, “Skipped stitches are often caused by a damaged needle, the wrong needle, or the wrong thread. Change each element one at a time to find the culprit” (taken from More Fabric Savvy by Sandra Betzina, pg. 146). You should check it out if you don’t already have it!
