My First Modern Quilt Guild Meeting
June 11, 2012 in News
This past weekend, I attended a St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild (STLMQG) meeting, and it was awesome! The meeting was filled with updates on new things going on in the modern quilting world, beautiful (and modern) quilts, door prizes, and swapping of ideas and fabric. So, what IS going on in the modern quilting world? Some of the STLMQG ladies had the privilege of attending Quilt Market in Kansas City a few weeks ago, and they brought back lots of great info: -The fabric being released this summer and fall from companies, like Moda, Anna Maria Horner and Amy Butler, are absolutely beautiful. -There are 3 new magazines designed especially for modern quilters: Quilty (read our review here), Generation Q and Modern Quilts Unlimited. -Over forty businesses/groups sponsored the Modern Meet-Up held during Quilt Market. This means there are lots of great companies, shops and groups who are supporting the modern quilting movement! For a list of those sponsors, click here. Show and Tell At every meeting, members are encouraged to bring quilts they are working on to showcase their interpretation of what modern quilting looks like. Charm Square Swap The STLMQG held a charm square swap at the meeting. During the meeting, the collections were separated and put back together, so those who participated left with a new and unique charm pack. How fun! About the Modern Quilt Guild The Modern Quilt Guild (MQG) is an organization supported by over 100 chapters across the world. MQG is designed to support the modern quilting movement through art, education and community. The Modern Quilt Guild was developed from thriving communities of bloggers, online tutorials and social media that provide inspiration and support for quilters of all skill levels.
