Diane’s Favorite Sewing Book

April 15, 2012 in Find It / Buy It, Tips & Tricks

While spring cleaning, I found myself bored with the same look and color in my living room. A great way to change colors without spending a fortune on new furniture is to bring new color into the room with pillows. I found a book called “Simply Pillows by the Editors of Sunset Books and found many different styles that would be easy to make with easy to follow directions. This book had a lot of great ideas.

Old Socks = New Toys

August 4, 2010 in Projects

4776581072_df7a9e1712Like most homes throughout the country we suffer from the lost left sock phenomenon. You put two matching socks into the dryer and only one sad and lonely sock comes back out. (I always just assume that the survivor is the right sock.) This project will gather all of the lost and lonely socks in your home and give them a second chance at life by pairing them with man’s best friend.

I wouldn’t toss out those wooden spools…

July 11, 2009 in General

I was going through some stuff the other day looking for just the right thing for a project I am going to start soon and I ran into something that brought back some good ole memories; my knitting spool!¬† I remember making a ton of cool stuff with it, at least it was cool in my 12 year old mind…lol.¬† spool-knitterWe are going to be entering the dog days of summer here in Missouri so I thought I would try to dig up some spools and make one of these for my nieces.¬† I found instructions here.¬† If you happen to have some wooden spools it’s a great way to repurpose them.

Monsters among us

April 14, 2009 in General

Surely we all remember the popular Monster Inc movie from Disney that released a couple of years ago. It seems that since then monsters have been popping up everywhere, including sewing.

Monsterosity has created cute monsters with a trendy and vintage feel. Their monsters appear in several ways, and no two ways are the same.

Danger Craft’s offers a fun monster pattern to create your own unique and cuddly creatures. You could even recycle an old sweater to make these cute little guys — a green monster.

What kind of monster would you make?

How to Make Sock Monsters

July 10, 2008 in General

Summer is here and it’s pretty hot, so you’ve probably been running around in flip flops and open toe shoes (and NOT those appalling gladiator sandals, though if you are I guess I won’t judge you). AND if you’re like me, you probably lost and/or destroyed a few socks over the winter.

So what do you do with all those poor extra socks – especially the reallyreally cute ones that you loved? Well, Nicky from Monster-Munch likes to make sock monsters (seriously, who doesn’t?), and she created this awesome poster for a quick, easy-to-follow lesson on how to make your own:

You can download your own Sock Monsters poster by clicking here. And man, how fun does the Making Things Club sound?
