How to Thread a Baby Lock!
September 30, 2015 in News
Happy National Sewing Month! What a true gift sewing is; is it not?! To be able to create something from raw fabric and make it something usable, creative, beautiful, 3D is overwhelmingly rewarding…and to have the right sewing and/or embroidery machine and/or serger working with you…makes it so much more fun! And, obviously, knowing how to use that machine and everything it can do is even more awesome! 🙂
While this post doesn’t specifically show you how to thread a Baby Lock sewing machine or serger, it will point you to some great ONLINE sewing and serging classes that Baby Lock has available and some that actually walk you through threading your machine (along with other great content to get you stitching with your machine)!!
As someone who has worked with Baby Lock in a number of roles, I know that having video on threading your machine is a big deal! So, I just have to share this with you!! Did you know that Baby Lock has a website called Sew at Home?! It is a website that offers sewing, machine embroidery, embroidery software, and serging classes online!! There are so many classes at your fingertips (and we’re continually adding more), several free and many for, at most, $20! Aaaaannnd, upon purchasing the class, you can keep the class itself and your class notes handout forever in your Sew at Home account! You can reference the class whenever you need it! There are some fun projects and some great Baby Lock machine classes! With all of that being said, there are some machine classes that will literally walk you through your machine…it’s like a Live Action Manual! 🙂
Why are these a big deal?! Because these videos will show you how to thread your Baby Lock machine. But not just that! It goes over many other things you should know about your machine (the accessories, the knobs, and settings, etc)! Check out some of the free classes we have, listed below. We’re constantly adding new content and will have more instructional machine videos in the coming months/year! In the near future, we’ll have instructional videos for the Baby Lock Lauren, Diana, and Imagine Sergers! So, keep checking back!
Below is just a sampling of some (among many) of the FREE classes! Click on the link or image to the class below and it will take you to that class on Sew at Home. You’ll need to create an account and add any classes (including free), that you want to take, to your cart and check out. Then, your classes will be in “My Account” and you’ll find them in “My On Demand Classes!” While you’re over there, check out all the classes offered! And, again, we’re constantly adding more video classes on our Baby Lock sewing, embroidery, and serger machines, as well as, embroidery software!
In the “Getting to Know your Baby Lock Ovation Serger” class, you’ll learn the names and functions of all the adjustment knobs and levers. You’ll learn how to thread a Baby Lock Ovation for a 4-thread Overcast, a 3-thread Overcast and rolled hem, AND a cover stitch! You’ll also explore some of the most basic stitches and their settings, including how to gather with your serger! This video is excellent for someone just getting started with the Ovation, as well as, anyone looking to learn more about Baby Lock sergers.
In the “Getting to Know Your Baby Lock Evolution” class, Linda Rainwater, Baby Lock National Trainer, will show you the ins and outs of the Evolution. She’ll show you all the parts of the machines and their functions. Aaaannd guess what?? You will also learn how to thread a Baby Lock Evolution in this video!! She’ll also go over settings for specific stitches, like overcasting, roll hem, and the cover and chain stitches! You’ll also get short tutorials on how to add elastic to a knit fabric and gathering fabric with your serger!
A lot of people ask us what you would use 8-thread sergers for. If you’re looking for the answer to this very question, check out Pam Mahshie’s short class, “Why 8 Threads on a Serger?” to get some great insight on this very subject!
Watch Sara Gallegos in this fun video “Serger Troubleshooting,” as she shows us how to troubleshoot several issues you might be having with your Baby Lock serger! Whether you’re getting skipped stitches or loopy threads, it may just be operator error and need a little adjustment to get your stitches back on par! I’ve been the operator error, myself; trust me, this video is way helpful!
