Good Question! When you use the cover stitch function, you have to put the blade down and change to another foot plate attachment (I’m not sure exactly what it is called), but, on this attachment there are markers like on a sewing machine that lets you line up your edge to follow as you cover stitch. So, I iron up my amount to be hemmed, 2.5″ for instance, then, I cover stitch lining up the fold (or hem) with the inch marker on the foot plate, then, I cut as close to the serging on the back to take my 2.5″ excess down to approximately an inch where my serging is…does that make sense? Sometimes I feel like I ramble!

This machine looks like what I really want. But I have one very serious question… When using the coverstitch function, how do you overcome not using a hemmer foot (not available for this model, right?) and still getting the hem straight. Since you have to do it “blind”.

Hi! I have the esante babylock also, I love her love her love her. She is a work horse!!! If you are wanting the 4X4 hoop there is a set 3, the 5×7, 4×4, and 2×2 on Amazon that fit our machine. $58 plus $5.65 to ship. When I priced the 4×4 though the dealer her where I live they wanted 79.95 for the 4×4 only. This way, you get an extra 5×7 hoop. I am always in need 2 hoops. It makes things go much faster if you are sewing multiple projects.

So are you still sold on the Babylock Diana serger? I am trying to decide on a new serger. I am also a fashion design student embarking on senior collection in a few weeks…. my little Euro Pro can barely handle the jobs I give it now. I like the price on Diana over other models, but I want to make sure it is worth the investment. If you had it to do over, would you purchase separate machines for the coverstitch option, or do you think you made the right decision?

Allison-I would go to the BabyLock website http://www.babylock.com. You can read about the machine and find a dealer near you who sells them. In short, it is a sewing and embroidery machine. A pretty good/easy one for beginners, or those that haven’t sewn in years. Haven’t used it much for sewing yet, but we are having fun embroidering. More pics to come soon. Good luck!
